At the start of the race, I decided to stick with the 2:20 pace team since I wanted to finish somewhere in the 2:20-2:23 range. At four miles, I walked a couple minutes and sucked down some Gu. At the water stops, I tended to have longer than usual walks. I was having a hard time with the 10:16-ish pace they were running and slowly dropped back. The route between miles 7 and 9 is an out-and-back, so I could see where I was in relation to the pace team. I was easily a few minutes behind them. After another Gu packet somewhere in mile 7 (I think), I settled into a pace that felt okay to me. Once I got to mile 9, I felt better and managed to finish in a respectable time (for me, anyway).
The weather was great! Now, if I can just tie together great weather and good health (no head/chest colds with only sporadic training in the two weeks before the race), I ought to be able to set some more PR's and maybe even break 2 hours.
